Townline Auto Group was formed in 1992 by the current owner, Douglas Blumenthal, an ASE certified technician, and lifelong resident of Northeastern Connecticut. Mr. Blumenthal already had 17 years of industry experience under his belt, starting as a line technician and working his way up to shop manager, before he decided to take the entrepreneurial risk of opening his own Automotive General Repair business.

In the early days, Doug’s original shop had just two bays. He bought his first front-end alignment rack the same year, and set about creating goodwill with local customers who still use the newest Townline automotive facility for their transportation needs today.

The following year, Townline acquired its first tow truck. You could say that it was extremely “pre-owned”, and on the very first towing job it ran without the doors mounted, as it was being reconditioned in the off-hours.

Then, just two years after opening, Townline had more repeat business than it could fit in its garage. A second location was purchased up the road from the first, the crew expanded (some are still with us today), and the shop equipment was upgraded to keep up with the industry.

Doug has always had a belief that he should provide his customers with what they needed. As the business grew, specializations in servicing air conditioning, transmissions, diesel engines, and on-board computers where fully developed. The newest four-wheel alignment rack in our shop utilizes a laser beam system and a computer of its own, and, along with one of the largest tire inventories in the area, Townline offers windshield replacement, auto detailing, complete driveline replacement, and Connecticut state emissions testing. Townline’s modern towing operations are run with a full-time staff, a fleet of new Medium Duty International wreckers and flatbeds, and a preferred partnership with AAA.

By 1996, it became clear that Townline customers also needed a place to buy a car they could trust. The first company sales slogan was actually “Friends, don’t let friends drive junk”. A start-up inventory of around eight cars has since grown into over 100 “technician select™” pre-owned vehicles, that are still meticulously hand picked by Doug and his inventory specialist, another fully certified ASE technician.

Within a quarter mile of the first garage, and directly across the street from the second shop, stands a new, 8-acre custom showroom, and NAPA Auto Care facility, built specifically to provide even better service.
